Only You Know Me Lyrics – Robbie Williams
Only You Know Me Lyrics
(scroll & sing):
If a man could beat his own fancy
Then to only breed in captivity
Is pointless
Ive been doing what I like when I like how I like its joyless
Only you know me
What a waste of all this peace
Baby steps and two more sleeps
Till I get to say sorry
I get hysterical, historical, of love is just chemical
Give us something to stop me
Only you know me
Since you went away, my heart breaks everyday
You don’t know cos you’re not there
You simply found the words to make all modern feelings fade away
Only you know me
Im doin’ fine
And the sun often shines
What are you thinking?
At the worst of my mind
With this thunderbird wine
Baby, Im drinking
I’m doin’ fine
And the sun often shines
What are you thinking?
I done bruised up my mind with this thunderbird wine
Baby, I’m drinking
Only you know me
Since you went away, my heart breaks everyday
You don’t know cos you’re not there
You simply found the words to make all modern feelings fade away
Only you know me
Only you know me
Since you went away, my heart breaks everyday
You don’t know cos you’re not there
You simply found the words to make all modern feelings fade away
Only you know me
Only you know me
Only you
Only you
Only you know me
Those were Only You Know Me lyrics from track 3 on the album “Reality Killed The Video Star.” The song “You Know Me” is one of 2 singles from the album. It features a classic style doo-wop melody with 1950’s-like background vocals, piano, bells and strings. It’s a bit low-key for a pop single, with its swaying dance-floor melody. However, its majestic-like sound is like no other in this time of “modern feelings.” This song could be a “bring-back” to some of the oldie tunes, hence the sampling of “Voila” by Francoise Hardy, and there could be more songs with this similar rhythm. The choosy approach of Robbie and his team seems to be paying off and recapturing fans. The Only You Know Me lyrics and sounds of the song are in words, both brilliant and contagious!
The video begins with Robbie in the make-up room. He lays back and his dream begins, crawling into the mirror which is supposedly a tunnel to his fantasy. The tunnel and theme of the video make it reminiscent of “Alice In Wonderland.” The postcard he picks up is written “Wish you are here” and is addressed to “Mr. Rabbit, Wonderland.” Although the rabbit costume can be a bit hideous, atrocious, frightening (whatever you want to call it) since the album was released during the Holidays. It is like Easter, on a Christmas season. The ‘shoo-doo-wee-whop-bop-bop’ lettuces can also bring back memories of the “Sesame Street” or the “Muppet Show.” The end of the video shows a “making of” the official music video for the forthcoming single.
Despite the approach, there’s a strong emphasis that “it is not a reality” (hence the album title) and wishing that it were a bit of a fantasy at times. The vibe as a whole gives an insight to Robbie’s varying history and a rediscovery of his renown charm.
